Rayos Magos is a local Chicano artist born and raised in San Jose, CA. The name of Rayos Magos comes from a play on the famous Mexican holiday celebrating the three kings/wiseman ( Los Reyes Magos). Though not religious, Rayos was inspired by the magic surrounding this holiday when living abroad in Mexico City for two years. In Spanish, Rayos translates as rays as well as Mexican slang for (damn, darn, shoot), while Magos translates as magic, magician, and prophet. Therefore, the combination of words is taken to represent the artist's personality and drive to magically create something from nothing. Rayos Magos takes his inspiration from spirituality, psychology, and philosophy. With a background in psychology Rayos utilizes his deeper understanding and appreciation of the human psyche as the basis of his representational work. Rayos unifies his interests in painting, mixed media, printmaking, collage, and visual arts in order to represent imagery that captures the inner psycho-spiritual world. Rayos hopes his work communicates a deeper sense of humanity and connection to the universe.
