College Admissions Essays: Tips and Tricks In-Person
This presentation will provide high school students (and their parents) with strategies for maximizing efficiency in writing college admissions essays. Students can easily find themselves faced with writing 30 unique essays for college applications. Is there any way to ease the load? Authors of The Better College Essay: From Start to Finish (2021) Dr. Elizabeth A. Stone and Meredith Joelle Charlson will walk families through their successful process of tackling essay writing.
Elizabeth Stone, PhD is Executive Director of Campanile College Counseling where she has been guiding prospective college students for more than twenty years. Stone received her PhD from UC Berkeley and teaches in the UC Berkeley Extension Certificate Program in College Admissions and Career Planning. Her previous books are The Better College Essay: Fitting In and Standing Out and Part of the Group. She is an Affiliated Consultant for the Council of International Schools and a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association. She advises students of all abilities, including students with learning differences.
As the Director of Writing at Campanile College Counseling, Inc., Meredith Joelle Charlson has individually mentored over 200 students applying to college, and she now helps train other college counselors an instructor in UC Berkeley’s Extension Certificate Program in College Admissions and Career Counseling. Charlson is a contributing writer to The Better College Essay: Fitting In and Standing Out and to the textbook Helping Students With Disabilities Develop Social Skills, Academic Language and Literacy Through Stories. She graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Comparative Literature.
