An Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month virtual program featuring Maw Shein Win, Audrey T. Williams, and Chloe Chou.

Join us to hear new poetry informed by Burmese cultural heritage and for the chance to win a book by one of the featured poets. 4 winners will be selected.  

Maw Shein Win is a Burmese American poet, editor, and educator who lives and teaches in the Bay Area. Her poetry chapbooks are Ruins of a glittering palace (SPA/Commonwealth Projects) and Score and Bone (Nomadic Press). Invisible Gifts: Poems was published by Manic D Press in 2018. She was a 2019 Visiting Scholar in the Department of English at UC Berkeley. Win is the first poet laureate of El Cerrito, California (2016 - 2018). Her full-length poetry collection Storage Unit for the Spirit House (Omnidawn, 2020) was longlisted for the 2021 PEN America Open Book Award, nominated for a Northern California Book Award for Poetry, and shortlisted for the Golden Poppy Award. She often collaborates with visual artists, musicians, and other writers and was a Spring 2021 ARC Poetry Fellow at UC Berkeley. mawsheinwin.com

Audrey T. Williams writes from the intersection of her Anglo-Burmese and Black American heritage. She earned her MFA from CCA in San Francisco and writes speculative fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Her first poetry chapbook, Where I Dream, was published in 2019 and her poems can be found in Space & Time Magazine, FUNGI, and Conjuring Worlds: An Afrofuturist Textbook for Middle Grades. Chloe Chou is the 2022-23 Daly City Youth Poet Laureate and the 2022-23 South San Francisco Youth Poet-in-Residence. A South City resident, she is currently a freshman at Westmoor High School in Daly City. Her passions are coding and writing. In her free time, she likes to make mixtapes! In 2020, she published a book called The Phaeton Complex, which is available on Amazon and in the Peninsula Library System.
